Wildcats in 12th Place at Inverness Intercollegiate After Two Rounds

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Playing in its first tournament of the fall, Northwestern's men's golf team is in 12th place at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational, which is being held at the famed Inverness Club, host of four U.S. Opens.
Freshman Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek), one of three newcomers trying to fill the holes left by the graduation of Tom Johnson, Casey Strunk and T.C. Ford, is in 19th place after shooting a 7-over 149 (74-75) in his collegiate debut. Senior Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland), who finished in a fourth-place tie at the 2003 Inverness, is tied for 38th place at 11-over (78-75=153).
Sophomore David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) is also in 38th place after firing rounds of 77 and 76. Junior Scott Weber (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) is a stroke back of Dougherty and Merkow, in 54th place.
As a team, the Wildcats are 33 strokes back of Michigan State, which is four shots ahead of second-place Kentucky and Kent State.
The third and final round will be played Saturday.
