EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern dropped the conference series finale to Indiana, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Rocky Miller Park in Evanston, Ill. Sophomore Mark Ori had two doubles in the game and Anthony Wycklendt drove in NU's only run as the Wildcats fall to 11-11-1 overall, 2-2 in the Big Ten. The 'Cats are next in action when they host Valparaiso at 3 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday afternoon.

Indiana scored two runs in the top of the third inning, taking advantage of four wild pitches and three base-on-balls. After a leadoff single, freshman starter George Kontos threw two wild pitches, moving the Hoosier runner to third. After a strikeout, Indiana third baseman David Hughes hit a sacrifice fly to center, plating the first run. Kontos walked the next three hitters, throwing two more wild pitches in the process, which allowed the second runner of the inning to score.

Indiana plated another run in the top of the seventh inning as a one-out single crossed the plate on another Kontos wild pitch.

Sophomore Julio Siberio relieved Kontos to start the eighth inning, giving up no runs on only one hit, facing just six hitters. A double play in the eighth inning wiped out the leadoff single. It was the second straight game Siberio came on in relief. He did not give up a run in either appearance, allowing just two hits.

NU did not threaten until the bottom of the ninth inning, when they scored one run on two hits, stranding a runner at second base. Senior Jason Krynski led off with a bunt single and moved to third on Ori's double down the right field line. It was his second double of the game. Krynski crossed the plate when Wycklendt hit a one-out sacrifice line-drive fly ball to the right fielder. An unassisted ground ball out to the first baseman ended the Wildcat threat.

NU did not get a runner to third base until the ninth inning, stranding runners on second base in three different innings prior to the ninth.

Offensively for NU, Krynski and Ori were both 2-for-4 as Josh Lieberman and Doug Beatty were the only other Wildcats to register hits.
