Olkowski's Contract Not Renewed At Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. - June Olkowski, the head coach of the Wildcat women's basketball team for the past five seasons, has not had her contract renewed. The announcement was made Wednesday by Northwestern Director of Athletics Mark Murphy.

Olkowski's record during her five seasons at Northwestern was 31-108 overall, 7-73 in Big Ten play. During the 2003-04 season, the Wildcats were 8-19 overall, 1-15 in regular season conference games. Their season ended last Thursday with a loss to Minnesota in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

NU was 3-13 in the Big Ten and placed 10th in both 1999-2000 and 2002-03, its best finish under Olkowski. Her eight wins overall in each of the past two seasons marked highs for the coach during her Northwestern tenure.

A national search for her successor is underway.
