EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore Dan Brauer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors for his start vs. Samford University last Friday afternoon. This is Brauer's second conference honor of the season.
In the game, Brauer racked up a career-best 11 strikeouts and no walks against the Bulldogs to collect NU's third Conference Pitcher of the Week award this season. The sophomore lefthander threw seven innings and allowed only six hits and one unearned run for the victory. He lowered his season ERA to 2.96, totaling 26 strikeouts in only 24.1 innings pitched.
Brauer is the first Wildcat hurler to earn the weekly Conference pitching honor on two separate occasions. Teammate J.A. Happ was awarded the weekly honor Feb. 17.
The 'Cats are next in action when they travel to Bradenton, Fla., for a seven-game, nine-day trip, beginning March 19 vs. Miami (Ohio). Game time is set for 5 p.m. (EST).
