EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore Dan Brauer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) flirted with a no-hitter against New Mexico last Sunday, allowing no hits and three unearned runs while striking out 10 in seven and two-third innings. The lefthander threw 117 pitches before leaving with a 3-2 lead. Brauer notched his second no-decision of the season after the Lobos knotted the score and the game ended in a tie after 10 innings. Brauer moved to the designated hitter role after being relieved and collected a hit in his only at bat.
So far this season, Brauer has pitched 13 innings in two starts, compiling 15 strikeouts while giving up just two hits. The opponents batting average vs. the Illinois native is a measly .048 (2-for-42).
Brauer is the second Wildcat hurler to earn the weekly Conference pitching honor this season, as teammate J.A. Happ earned the distinction last week. This is the first weekly League award for Brauer
The 'Cats are next in action when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., for a three-game set vs. the University of Florida. Game one vs. the Gators is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CST) Saturday March 28 at Florida's Perry Field.
