EVANSTON, Ill.--Northwestern sophomore Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putney) was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week in tennis for her performance last week at the USTA-ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The honor is her second as a Wildcat athlete.

"Cristelle played some outstanding tennis last week, which was evident in her wins over three ranked opponents," said head coach Claire Pollard. "It is what we have come to expect from a player of her talents."

En route to winning all three of her matches last week, fourth-ranked Grier defeated top-ranked Agata Cioroch of Georgia in straight sets. She also beat 23rd-ranked Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky and 26th-ranked Jessica Roland of Texas A&M in improving to a team-best 16-2 record, including a 6-0 mark in dual matches.

Grier, who also is part of the nation's No. 1 doubles team, has helped the 'Cats to a 5-1 record and a No. 7 ranking.
