EVANSTON, Ill. - With the 42nd edition of the Midlands Championships less than one month away, a seeding committee has compiled a preliminary rankings list of the draw's top-100 wrestlers -- broken down into a top-10 for the 10 separate weight classes.

The championships run Wednesday, Dec. 29 through Thursday, Dec. 30 and are shaping up to be one of the most diverse in its storied history. Wrestlers from 28 different states will compete. Most prominently represented is Ohio, which brings 15 wrestlers to the mats, while Pennsylvania ranks second with 11 and Illinois ranks third with nine. Iowa ranks fourth with seven set to compete.

The draw extends to the west coast as well, with six wrestlers hailing from both California and Washington. The wide-variety of states represented is a testament to the still-growing, national appeal of the legendary Midlands Championships.

Redshirt junior John Velez (Kings Mill, Ohio/Kings) and true junior Matt Delguyd (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) are the highest-ranked Northwestern wrestlers, both claiming the sixth slot in his respective weight class, 125 lbs. and 197 lbs. Redshirt sophomore Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) is the only other Wildcat ranked, claiming the ninth spot at 174 lbs.

The following is a complete listing of rankings for each weight class as of Dec. 2. They are subject to change. Each wrestler's name is followed by his affiliation and hometown.
