Northwestern Hosts UIC on Field Trip Day

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wildcats return home for their final contest at Welsh-Ryan Arena of the 2004 calender year, hosting the Flames of Illinois-Chicago at Noon Tuesday in Northwestern's third-annual Field Trip Day. Admission to the game is free and more than 3,000 youngsters will be on hand to hear a talk from former Wildcat and current children's author Maureen Holohan before tip time.
NU and UIC both enter the game with identical 1-7 overall records and five-game losing skids. The Wildcats' victory came over Western Michigan on Nov. 27 while the Flames' lone win came against the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 26.
The last time these two schools got together was a classic. After three overtimes on Dec. 18, 2003, Northwestern finally prevailed in a 78-77 thriller. Samantha McComb (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) scored a career-best 22 points in that matchup while junior Ifeoma Okonkwo (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds.
Northwestern is coming off a road loss at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sunday afternoon, 74-60. Seniors Suzanne Morrison (Franklin, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and Sarah Kwasinski (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) led the Wildcats with 13 points each in the game while classmate McComb chipped in with 12 points. Freshman Melissa Miller (Bloomington, Minn./The Breck School) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds in the contest.
On the season, Morrison leads the 'Cats with 11.9 points per game while Miller is averaging 7.0 boards per contest. She ranks fifth in the Big Ten with 5.0 defensive rebounds per game.
UIC got a huge performance from LaShonda Grant in its last game, a 75-64 loss at Central Michigan. In her first game of the season, Grant poured in 23 points with four 3-pointers.
Chrissy Dizon leads the Flames over the entire season with 14.3 points per contest while Amber Washington is grabbing a team-best 5.3 rebounds per game.
