EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern hits the road for the first time in four games this weekend to take on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 2 p.m. Sunday. While it is the first away game in a while for NU, it will be the first home contest of the season for the Panthers, who are currently 2-5 after playing their first seven contests on the road.
For the Wildcats, the game will be their first in a week after taking all of last week off for fall quarter exams. NU brings a 1-6 record to the Klotsche Center and represents the second of a string of three games for UW-Milwaukee to be played against Big Ten competition.
Northwestern was last in action Dec. 3-5 at its own Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational, dropping games to No. 24 Houston, 78-56, and Virginia, 76-55. Senior Suzanne Morrison (Franklin, Mich./Detroit Country Day), scored a career-best 21 points in the Invitational's finale against Virginia and was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
Freshman Melissa Miller (Bloomington, Minn./The Breck School) has become a force inside for the Wildcats, leading NU in rebounding in five of its first seven games, including the last four in a row, and currently ranks sixth in defensive rebounds (4.71) and ninth in total rebounds (6.90) in the Big Ten.
UW-Milwaukee is coming off a 75-66 loss to the University of Wisconsin Wednesday. Despite hitting six 3-pointers and trailing 38-36 at the half, the Panthers gave up 32 points in the paint during the second stanza.
Nicole Drummond and Anne Witte led UW-Milwaukee with 13 points apiece while three other Panthers also reached double-digits in that contest.
After facing Northwestern Sunday, UWM will face Iowa on Dec. 28 to round out its three-game schedule against Big Ten opponents.
