Cohen Wins Two In Singles Action

EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Audra Cohen (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) won two singles matches on Sunday, Oct. 3 in the prequalifying portion of the ITA All-American Championships, advancing to the fourth round while maintaining a perfect record of 7-0 on the fall season.

Cohen opened the day by beating Virginia Tomatis of Mississippi 6-0, 6-1. She then defeated Dasha Potopova of Georgia Tech 6-1, 6-2 in round three. She will face Maria Rosenberg of Kansas State University at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4 for the right to advance into the qualifying portion of the tournament.

Graduate student Valerie Vladea (Tiffin, Iowa/Minnesota) fell to Miranda Foley of Florida State 6-4, 7-6 in her second round match of the prequalifier on Sunday.

Vladea will continue to compete in doubles action alongside junior Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day), as the duo advanced to the third round of the prequalifier by beating Besovia and Mancina of TCU, 8-5. They will play at noon Monday, Oct. 4. If they win that match, their fourth round contest will come at 2:30 p.m., also on Monday.
