Women's Hoops Signs Three

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's basketball head coach Beth Combs announced today the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent. Two members of the Class of 2009 hail from Illinois, while the third is from Arizona.
"As a staff, we knew from the minute we were hired who we wanted on this team," said Combs. "We expect them to step in immediately and make an impact, excelling both on and off the court."
Kristin Cartwright, a 5-11 guard from Lake Forest, Ill., is currently a student at Lake Forest high school and is a member of the Full Package AAU team. The daughter of former Bulls coach and current New Jersey Nets assistant coach Bill Cartwright, Kristin is ranked in the top 250 of the All-Stars Girls Report and is an adidas Top 10 camp selection.
"Kristin knows the game extremely well," said Combs. "Watching her father coach has been invaluable, but more importantly, she is a major competitor and knows how to win."
Erin Dickerson is a 5-8 guard from Chicago, where she plays for Whitney Young high school. A four-year varsity starter and 2005 captain, Dickerson helped Whitney Young to the 2003 sectional championship and 2004 regional championship. A member of the Chicago Flames AAU team, Erin pushed her team to four Illinois State AAU championships. She is currently ranked No. 33 by position (point guard) by the All-Stars Girls Report.
"Erin's successes have come at all levels," said Combs. "She has played with great people at the high school and AAU levels and we look forward to the competitive nature she'll bring to our program at Northwestern."
Phoenix, Ariz. native Lauren Roberts completes this rookie class. The 6-3 center attends Xavier College Preparatory and is a member of the nationally ranked Arizona Elite AAU team. A two-time captain and four-year letterwinner for Xavier, Lauren is an all-region and all-state team honoree as well as Xavier's leading scorer.
"Lauren is an excellent addition inside," said Combs. "She has a great touch facing the basket and will add some needed height to our roster. We expect her to make an impact as a freshman."
