Wildcats Finish 14th at Midwest Regional

PEORIA, Ill. - The Northwestern women's cross country team finished 14th out of 26 teams at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship meet Saturday at Newman Golf Course.
The 'Cats scored 362 points. The team champion was Missouri, while NU's Big Ten rival Illinois was second with 93 points. As a result, the Tigers and the Fighting Illini earned automatic berths into the NCAA Cross Country Championship meet, which will be run Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The individual champion was Cassie Hunt from Illinois, who clocked 20:21.29 on the 6-kilometer course.
Freshman Marie Grabinski, who has led Northwestern in every race she ran this season, held up to that standard one final time. She ran a time of 21:36.96 -- the best 6K time by a Wildcat runner this season -- to place 32nd overall.
Seniors Lesley Meade and Diana Hossfeld were NU's second and third runners on Saturday, respectively. Meade placed 60th overall with a time of 22:14.20, while Hossfeld was 69th in 22:21.39. Another senior, Kyna Forkins, finished 100th overall in a season-best 6K time of 22:52.41.
Mallory O'Niel shaved nearly a minute off her 6K time at Big Tens and was the Wildcats' fifth scorer Saturday, clocking 23:18.20 and finishing 123rd overall.
Freshman Alison Coren (151st in 24:02.82) and Caroline Speirs (154th in 24:11.86) were the Wildcats' other runners Saturday.
