Northwestern hosted the first day of the Wildcat Invitational Friday, Oct. 8, as the `Cats went 4-2 in singles action and 1-2 in doubles competition.

Junior Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./UCLA) beat Jaklin of Illinois-Chicago 7-5, 6-2. Senior Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) beat Hiranrat of Western Michigan 6-3, 6-4. Junior Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) defeated Stewart of Louisville and Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) beat Leung of DePaul 7-6, 7-6.

Peisel and graduate student Valerie Vladea (Tiffin, Iowa/Minnesota) recorded NU's only doubles victory on the day, beating Jeanmarie and Parekh of Western Michigan 8-1.

Tournament action continues Saturday, Oct. 9, with the finals set for Sunday, Oct. 10.
