Grier and Cohen Win First-Round Match in Main Draw

EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) continued her tear through the ITA All-American Championships Thursday, Oct. 7 by beating Jennifer Magley of Florida in the first round of the main draw to improve to 11-0 on the year. Cohen dropped the first set 4-6 - only the second set she has lost through 11 matches - but rallied to win the next two 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) - No. 1 player in the country and top seed in the tournament - saw her first action of the championship, beating Romanda But of Maryland 6-3, 6-1. Grier will face Erin Burdette of Stanford in the second round match tomorrow with the winner moving on to the quarterfinals.
Cohen will face Chloe Carlotti of Mississippi for the right to advance into the quarterfinals. Carlotti has played her way through the early rounds of the championships much like Cohen and most recently upset the No. 5 seed in the main draw, Alice Barnes of Stanford.
Junior Alexis Prousis also saw her first action of the championships on Thursday, but fell to Shadisha Robinson of Georgia 6-4, 6-1.
