EVANSTON, Ill. - After two consecutive road trips to the Rice Classic and the ITA All-American Championships to open the fall season, Northwestern will host the Wildcat Invitational this Friday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Oct. 10.
The tournament will feature Big Ten foe Wisconsin, as well as nonconference competition Western Michigan, Louisville, Iowa State, DePaul, and Illinois-Chicago. Three flights of singles action and two flights for doubles will be the structure of the tournament.
Freshman Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), junior Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./UCLA), and seniors Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) and Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) will compete for the Wildcats.
The foursome will play both singles and doubles, as Yung and Conill have gone 3-1 in doubles action so far this year. Roemer and Yung come into the tournament with a strong 4-0 singles record that both earned at the Rice Classic.
Freshman Audra Cohen (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and junior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/ Putney) -- the No. 1 player in the country -- could possibly play in the invitational as well, but are currently competing at the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The championships run through Sunday, Oct. 10 -- the same day the Wildcat Invitational wraps up.
