IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Northwestern women's cross country team finished 10th at the Big Ten Championships, which were run Sunday morning on the Bill & Jim Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.

Michigan won the team title, its third championship in a row. The Wolverines scored 45 points, easily outdistancing Michigan State and Illinois who scored 85 points each. They were the only teams under 100 for the day.

Individually, it was Michigan State freshman Danette Doetzel who stole the show. She won the individual title with a time of 20:33 on the 6-kilometer course, beating Michigan Rebecca Walter by 20 seconds.

For Northwestern, freshman Marie Grabinski led the way as she has all season. Grabinski clocked 22:23 on the new course to finish 35th overall. A pair of seniors were next across the finish line for the 'Cats -- Lesley Meade was 43rd overall in 22:31, while Diana Hossfeld was 52nd overall in 22:45.

NU's other scorers Sunday were junior Kalysta Harmon (66th in 23:14) and senior Kyna Forkins (72nd 23:26). A total of nine women ran for Northwestern at the meet.

The Wildcats' next meet comes Saturday, Nov. 13, when they compete in the Midwest Regional Championships in Peoria, Ill. The team will be racing for an NCAA bid at that event -- the top two teams earn automatic bids to the national championship meet.
