EVANSTON, Ill. - Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) captured the singles title Sunday, Oct. 10 at the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships, beating teammate and No. 1 seed Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) 7-6 (2), 6-2. It was the fourth time in tournament history that players from the same school faced each other for the title and first time since 1990.

Cohen came into the tournament unseeded and played her way through the prequalifying and qualifying tournaments earlier in the week and won 12 matches in nine days to claim the title. She lost just one set along the way, and is the first freshman to win the singles championship, since Duke's Ansley Cargill in 2000. With the win, she is Northwestern's first national singles champion.

It was the second time this year that Cohen has beaten Grier. All in all, she has now beat the No. 1 player in the ITA rankings - Grier -- twice this season as well as the No. 2 and 4-ranked players on her way to a 15-0 record.
