Wildcats Place Second Behind Illinois

PEORIA, Ill. - The Northwestern women's cross country team finished second out of four teams at the Bradley Cross Country Invitational Friday afternoon. The Wildcats were beaten by Big Ten foe Illinois.
Illinois scored 16 points to win going away. Northwestern was second with 61 points, edging third-place Northern Illinois (67). Host Bradley scored 94 points.
Friday's individual champion was the Illini's Cassie Hunt, who clocked 21:01.71. Illinois grabbed six of the first seven spots in the meet.
Freshman Marie Grabinski was Northwestern's top runner for the third time in as many collegiate races. She clocked 22:18.93 over the 6K course that will host the Midwest Regional Championships next month. Senior All-District runner Diana Hossfeld was right on her heels, finishing in 22:20.89. They were eighth and ninth overall, respectively.
Lesley Meade took 10th place with a time of 22:24.28, but then a significant gap opened up to the Wildcats' fourth finisher, Kyna Forkins (17th in 23:06.10). Alison Coren rounded out NU's scorers, taking 19th with a time of 23:20.25.
In all, a total of 16 Northwestern women placed in the meet.
