EVANSTON, Ill. - Playing Chicago State for the second time this season, NU opened the first inning with seven runs on six hits. The 'Cats batted around in the inning, as leadoff hitter Stanley Finch (Lubbock, Texas/Cooper) went 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Chicago State scored a run in the top of the second inning as an errant Wildcat throw on a stolen base attempt allowed the runner to advance the extra 90-feet.

Neither team scored until the eighth when sophomore Julian Romero (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) knocked a single through the right side to score pinch hitter Frank Favia (Barrington, Ill./Barrington). Favia reached on a walk.

Starter Evan Blesoff (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) threw six strong innings, giving up one run on two hits and striking out five.

Freshman Julio Siberio (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) threw two and two-third innings, giving way to shortstop Jon Mikrut (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) for the final out of the game. The switch was made to give Mikrut game action from the mound as the Illinois native has not pitched in a game since April 29 against UW-Milwaukee.

With the win, NU improves to 23-17 on the season.

The 'Cats are next in action when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take on the Michigan Wolverines in a four-game Big Ten series. The first game is set for 3 p.m. Friday.
