Northwestern announced the winner of the Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week. This week's recipient is Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putnery) of the women's tennis team. Grier was honored for her athletic performance from the week of May 19-25.

Grier, the Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Year, had an amazing campaign in 2003, going the entire spring-a school-record string of 28 matches-without losing a match before last Thursday's loss (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) to Jewel Peterson of Southern California in the round of eight at the NCAA Singles Championship. After dropping the first set, Grier won the second frame. However, she dug herself an insurmountable hole in the third, as Peterson broke her serve twice to take a 4-0 lead. Grier-who advanced further in the singles draw than any other player in NU history-was able to get back to 5-3, but Peterson closed out on her own serve. Grier finished the year with a 38-7 overall record.
