GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Northwestern women's tennis player Cristelle Grier continued her run through the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship Wednesday, taking a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Tennessee's Tammy Encina.

Grier, a freshman who is the second seed in the tournament, needed just one hour and 11 minutes to knock off Encina for her third consecutive straight-set win of the tournament. It was the shortest of the eight singles matches that took place Wednesday.

Grier has now advanced to the quarterfinal round of the championship -- further than any Wildcat player in history -- and will meet eighth-seeded Jewel Peterson of Southern California Thursday morning. In February, Grier defeated Peterson 6-4, 6-1 in a match at the USTA/ITA Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis.

On Tuesday, Grier and doubles partner Jessica Rush fell to Peterson and USC teammate Tiffany Brymer in a first-round match of the NCAA Women's Tennis Doubles Championship.
