Cristelle Grier and Jessica Rush begin NCAA Singles compeition today

Two Wildcats Begin Quest for NCAA Singles Title

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's tennis players Cristelle Grier and Jessica Rush begin individual play at the NCAA Championships today in Gainesville, Fla. at the Ring Tennis Complex.

Grier, the No. 2 seed and who played No. 1 for the Wildcats all season, will face regional rival Alicia Salas of Notre Dame in the first round of singles competition at 11 a.m. (Central).

Grier is ranked ninth in the nation and owns a 35-6 overall record, including a 25-0 dual-match mark.

Rush will meet the No. 1 seed Vilmaire Castellvi of Tennessee in her first round match at 11 a.m. (Central). Rush owns a 20-7 dual-match record and 29-14 overall.

This marks the first NCAA Singles appearance for both players.

The duo will begin competition in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Tuesday, meeting USC's No. 1 duo--Jewel Peterson and Tiffany Brymer.
