ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan pitching continued to shut down Northwestern hitting as Wolverine starter Drew Taylor threw his third complete game of the season, limiting NU to just three hits in the game. Wildcat starter J.A. Happ (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) pitched his team-leading sixth complete game of the year, as his record falls to 7-4 on the season.
Michigan scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a pair of doubles and an infield single. The loss drops NU's record to 23-19 overall, 13-11 in the Big Ten.
NU did threaten in the top of the fourth as Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted) was stranded on third after a leadoff single. Roeder moved to third on two groundball outs.
NU recorded two hits in the sixth inning, as pinch-hitter Anthony Wycklendt (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) came off the bench to punch one through the left side in his only at-bat. Wycklendt was cut down at second as a Wolverine double play ended the Wildcat threat.
