EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's lacrosse team never trailed in Sunday's game against No. 19 Connecticut, as the Wildcats staved off the Huskies 8-6 at Lakeside Field.

NU improved to 6-3 on the season, while UConn fell to 5-4.

Northwestern jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game's first 15 minutes. Freshman Lindsey Munday converted a feed from classmate Laura Glassanos at the 8:10 mark, and then exactly three minutes later scored again on a free-position effort. Glassanos netted her second assist of the day three minutes after that with a feed that Courtney Flynn converted.

UConn drew within one when Heather Levins netted a free-position goal and Tracy Mullaney scored on an unassisted effort with eight minutes left in the half. The teams swapped goals in the 28th minute, as Ashley Koester picked up on a defensive miscue by the Huskies to score an empty-netter from long range before UConn's Karianne Lauri was successful on another free-position effort.

Glassanos got things started right away in the second half for NU, scoring just 1:03 into the stanza, and then after Levins' second free-position goal Glassanos scored again, this time off a nice feed from Erin Flynn.

UConn again drew within one (6-5) when Mullaney finished a feed from Melissa MacDougall with 21 minutes left in the game. Things slowed down after that, though, and NU was able to get a cushion on nice individual efforts by E. Flynn and Munday. E. Flynn also had a goal taken away when she was ruled to have an illegal stick.

Connecticut got one of those goals back with 3:23 to play when Mullaney converted on the free-position, but NU was able to hold on and run out the clock in the final few minutes for the win.

Ashley Gersuk had a huge game in goal for NU, making 13 saves including several big ones in the second half on UConn free-position efforts.
