EVANSTON, Ill. -- Although Northwestern's women's golf team saw its season end on Sunday at the Big Ten Championships, the career of senior Elizabeth Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) has been extended at least two more weeks with her selection to the NCAA Championships. She will participate in the Central Regional May 8-10 at the Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
Burden is one of nine players who earned at-large selections to the postseason tournament. She finished the year with a seventh-place showing at the Big Ten Championships and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors.
Burden led Northwestern's team with a 76.30 stroke average. She posted four top-10 and three top-20 finishes in 10 tournaments.
Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 8-10 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition.
A total of 324 participants -- 63 teams and nine individuals -- have been selected for the regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the national championships May 20-23. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each region. The finals will be held at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
