Mavericks Drop Wildcats in New Mexico, 14-7

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Texas at Arlington scored early and often in a 14-7 win over Northwestern in the final game of the DKD Electric Shootout at Lobo Field in Albuquerque, N.M. NU finished the weekend 0-3 and fell to 6-5 on the year.
The Mavericks scored runs in each of the first six innings as the game was never in jeopardy.
The Wildcats did score a single run in the first and three more in the fifth, but by then the game was out of reach.
Dan Pohlman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) started for the Wildcats, taking the loss and dropping his season record to 0-1. He gave up 10 runs, four earned, on nine hits in 2.2 innings of work.
Offensively, Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted), David Gresky (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and Jon Mikrut (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) each had two hits.
NU is next in action when it travels to Bradenton, Fla. for its annual Spring Break Trip. The 'Cats are scheduled to play seven games in 10 days, including the start of the Big Ten season against Ohio State. Game one of the trip against Northeastern is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on March 21.
The conference games against the Buckeyes begin March 27.
