EVANSTON, Ill. -

Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) of the fencing team and J.A. Happ (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) of the baseball team earned Hilton Garden Inn Athlete of the Week honors, Northwestern announced Monday. The sophomores were rewarded for their athletic performance from the week of March 17.

Happ earned his first career shutout, blanking Army 3-0 last Saturday in Bradenton, Fla. Happ, who ended the 'Cats' five-game losing streak, recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .091 average in the seven-inning contest. He allowed only two hits against Army, both singles, and retired the first 10 batters. Happ lowered his season ERA to 2.89 and took over the team lead with 31 strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched. He also improved his team-leading win-loss record to 3-1. Happ has allowed just 22 hits all season, while holding opponents to a .218 batting average.

F?ldi led NU with her 10th-place finish in foil at the 2003 NCAA Championships. For the second straight year, F?ldi secured All-America honors: she earned honorable mention honors this year and second-team accolades in 2002. F?ldi led the 'Cats with 15 wins on the weekend, just one less than she had at last year's championships. Her 191 career foil wins are the 12th most in NU history.
