MADISON, Wis. -- The Northwestern women's tennis team finished its final match of the fall season with six wins against Wisconsin on the last day of competition at the Badger Blast.

In doubles play, Wisconsin's Shana McElroy and Teresa Gonzaga edged Connie Chiang (Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West) and Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) 8-6, while another UW pair, Lindsay Martin ad Katie McGaffigan, took down Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Ruth Barnes (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) 8-4.

NU avoided a sweep in doubles when Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) and Georgie Wolffer (Sagaponack, N.Y./Westminster) trumped Lexi Goldin and Kaylan Caiati 8-4.

The Wildcats found more success in singles play, where they won five of seven matches. Prousis defeated McGaffigan 6-4, 6-4; Yung nipped Gonzaga 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4); Barnes outlasted Nicole Beck 6-0, 1-0 (inj.); Peisel squeaked by Martin 6-1, 5-7, 6-3; and Wolffer routed Madison Sellers 8-1 in the pro set.

The Badgers' two wins in singles came when Goldin came back against Chiang 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Caiati beat Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) 6-3, 6-4.

NU will return to action Jan. 17, when it plays host to Eastern Michigan to open the spring season.
