Grier, Rush Win in Singles, Doubles

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putney) and Jessica Rush (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) had easy wins en route to advancing to Sunday's Round of 16 at the ITA Midwest Championships hosted by Western Michigan.

Grier, the No. 1 seed, routed Northern Illinois' Branka Savic 6-0, 6-1 to set up a match tomorrow with Purdue's Hala Sufi.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Rush breezed by Michigan's Chrissie Nolan 6-0, 6-3, and will next face Purdue's Alyssa Rodriguez.

The other two Wildcat singles players were not as fortunate.

Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) fell to Michigan's Kavitha Tipirneni 6-2, 6-7, 6-1, while Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) dropped her match to Notre Dame's No. 2 seed Alicia Salas 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles, also held today, Grier and Rush beat Notre Dame's Sarah Connelly and Kristina Stastny 8-5 to advance to the semifinals.

The other Wildcat duo, Peisel and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), fell to Indiana's No. 2 seed Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran 8-2.

Singles and doubles action continues tomorrow.
