Wildcats Sitting in Second After Day One of Purdue Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After one day of competition in the Purdue Invitational, Northwestern is in second place behind the host Boilermakers, but the Wildcats have certainly made their presence felt, breaking four pool records through the first five events.
NU's 200 free relay team of Tony Swanson, Matt Grevers, Matt Wever and Shelby Clark broke the pool record with a time of 1:21.40 en route to a first place finish.
Mark Hamming set a new pool record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:48.12. Swanson finished behind him by one-tenth of a second to finish in second place.
The freshman Grevers has now broked pool records at three different sites, this one coming in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.05. He broke the second Purdue pool record in the first leg of the 400 medley relay swimming the 100 back leg in 48.05.
Competition will continue tomorrow at the Purdue Invitational with a prelininary session in the morning and finals heats at night.
