Grier, Rush Advance in Riviera/ITA Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Northwestern's Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putney), the No. 3 seed in the 32-player Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, has advanced to the second round after defeating Arizona's Maja Mlakar 7-5, 6-2. Grier now faces UCLA's Jackie Carleton on Friday.

In doubles action, Grier and Jessica Rush (Dallas, Texas/Hockaday School), earned a berth in the quarterfinal round with an 8-5 victory over Missouri's Urska Juric and Katka Sevekova. They now play Duke's Amanda Johnson and Tory Zawacki, who upset the No. 1 seed from Stanford.

The premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season, the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships feature the top players in NCAA Division I tennis.
