Wildcats Will Send Everyone to Loyola

EVANSTON, Ill. - The plan this weekend was for the Northwestern women's cross country team to send out a divided front.
One group would make the trip to Stillwater, Okla. to compete in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree and run on the course that will host the Midwest Regional in November.
Another group would stay closer to home -- much closer to home -- and run at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
However, recently head coach Amy Tush had a change of heart, and thus a change in plans. For the first time in her three years, every member of the roster will compete at the same race, as the team participates in the Earl Invitational Saturday morning at Montrose Beach in Chicago.
Call it a united front by the Wildcats, if you like.
"This will be a very good meet," said Tush. "A number of Big Ten teams as well as several regional competitors are coming to the meet, as it turns out. I think this will end up being great for us."
The Wildcats are looking for a strong run Saturday after a disappointing appearance at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis last weekend. The 'Cats were 23rd out of 26 in a meet that hosted 13 ranked teams, but Tush felt NU should have been better represented.
"In truth, we could have finished as high as 16th," she said. "Our times were not nearly where we wanted them to be. But everyone has been training hard and we are hoping to bounce back strong Saturday."
The goal this weekend is to keep it close -- among team members.
"We do not want a lot of space between our runners," said Tush. "We want to go out hard and run well as a team. I would like to see a lot less space between our No. 1 runner and our No. 7 runner after last weekend."
