KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Wildcats will not be adding two more to the singles main draw at the ITA Midwest Championships hosted by Western Michigan.
In qualifying singles, Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) lost to Notre Dame's Emily Neighbours 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5. Although Roemer was then scheduled to face Northern Illinois' Karrie Tyioran in the consolation bracket, the match was not played.
Stacy Kokx (West Bloomfield, Mich./Marian) also lost, in her case a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Wisconsin's Teresa Gonzaga. Despite the tough loss, Kokx came back and beat Michigan State's Sarah Andrews 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8) in their consolation match.
Meanwhile, the doubles draw was announced today. Top-seeded Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putney) and Jessica Rush (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) will face the Xavier duo of Stephanie Bauer and Lauren Clary on Friday.
Other Wildcats competing in today's doubles draw will be Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) and Ruth Barnes (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) taking on Michigan's Kara Delicata and Kavitha Tipirneni; Kokx and Georgie Wolffer (Sagaponack, N.Y./Westminster) match up against Butler's Alaina Griffin and Christian Laun; and Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) drew IPFW's Lisa Bartelheim and Jessica Vervynckt.
