KALAMAZOO, Mich -- Nine Wildcats head to Western Michigan University this week to compete in the ITA Midwest Championships, with qualifying singles set to begin on Thursday.

"It will be nice to have the vast majority of the team traveling competing this weekend," said head coach Claire Pollard. "I think our strength of numbers will help us compete well."

Eight players will advance to the main singles draw from the qualifying field of 64, which concludes Friday. Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) is scheduled to play Notre Dame's Emily Neighbours on Thursday in qualifying singles, and Stacy Kokx (West Bloomfield, Mich./Marian) will take on Wisconsin's Teresa Gonzaga that same day.

Main draw singles competition will take place Saturday through Tuesday. Competing this weekend will be Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putney) and Jessica Rush (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School).

Other Wildcats in the main draw singles are Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino), Ruth Barnes (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College), Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest).

Doubles competition will run Friday through Monday. The draws for doubles and singles have not yet been determined.

"We are excited for the opportunity to compete against such talented competition," said Pollard. "We look forward to seeing where we are at this point of the year."

The doubles final will be played at 9 a.m. Monday, while the singles final is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday.
