Northwestern Wins Two of Three at Lone Star Duals

ARLINGTON, Texas - Northwestern went 2-1 Saturday at the Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas. NU dropped its morning match 27-10 to Cal Poly, but responded with a 27-10 win against Navy and 24-12 win against Harvard. Jason Erwinski (Tinley Park, Ill./Mt. Carmel) led with 'Cats (4-1) with three wins on the day. Erwinski is 13-7 thus far, including 5-0 in dual competition.
Freshman Scott Johnson (Kanab, Utah/Kanab) also had a strong showing, picking up a pair of falls at heavyweight. Johnson pinned Tanner Garrett of Navy at the 4:00 mark and followed that with a 34-second pin against Harvard's Jonas Corl.
Sophomore Mike Kimberlin (Bradley, Ill./Bishop McNamara) also picked up three wins Saturday, including one at 165 pounds. Kimberlin, who usually wrestles at 157 pounds, made the jump against Cal Poly's Keith Kroeger and pinned him in 6:46. Kimberlin is 19-8 overall, giving him six more wins than all of last season.
Northwestern returns to action Jan. 12 at the Wendy's Duals in Ashland, Ohio.
