Northwestern Names Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 20-26. The men's recipient is Kellan O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Preparatory) of the swimming and diving team, while the women's representative is Cristelle Grier (Surrey, England/Putney) of the tennis team.
O'Connor, a senior, recorded two individual victories and was a member of one winning relay team as Northwestern cruised to a 172-126 victory at Notre Dame Saturday.
O'Connor swept the butterfly titles, winning the 100 in a time of 49.34 and the 200 in 1:48.78, a time that was six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He also swam the opening leg of the Wildcats' winning 400 medley relay team that finished first by over five seconds.
Grier, a freshman, remained undefeated on the season by posting two victories over the weekend. Grier downed Washington's Claire Carter 6-4, 7-6(3) for one of NU's three points against the Huskies Saturday.
The following day, the freshman easily defeated Portland's Amy Juppenlatz 6-1, 6-1 to improve her record to 4-0 as the Wildcats shut out the Pilots 7-0.
