EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior left-handed pitcher Ryan Bos (Barrington, Ill./Lake Zurich) earned Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for his performance Saturday against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Starting his 10th game of the year, Bos dominated the Hawkeye hitters, giving up just two hits in 1-0 win. Bos threw 100 pitches in his third complete game of the season (a team high), striking out six and walking two. He improved his overall ERA to 2.74 in 62.1 innings pitched. Bos' conference ERA falls to 2.57 in 35.0 innings pitched, and he is holding the opposition to a .206 batting average in conference play.
In Saturday's game, Bos held Hawkeye hitters to a .091 batting average, lowering his overall opponent's batting average to .243 on the season. Bos faced only three over the minimum for a seven-inning game (24), going 1-2-3 in the final inning. The game took just 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete.
Bos shares the weekly pitching award with Michigan hurler Rich Hill, who recorded 17 strikeouts in nine innings of work. Hill fanned all six hitters he faced against nationally ranked Notre Dame in a midweek contest, then threw a complete-game, 5-4, win over Ohio State.
The 'Cats are next in action this weekend as they host conference rival Michigan for a four-game series beginning Friday at 3 p.m. Friday's game is scheduled to be one nine-inning contest.
