Three Wildcats Earn Big Ten Baseball Awards

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Freshman James Happ (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) was selected a first-team All-Big Ten relief pitcher today by the Big Ten Conference. Junior first baseman Travis Tharp (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) and senior left-handed pitcher Ryan Bos (Barrington, Ill./Lake Zurich) were selected to the third team.
Happ has pitched in 20 games with two starts and owns the best Big Ten ERA at 1.41 in 44.2 innings. Happ threw in 11 Big Ten games earning three saves and compiling a 3-1 record. He also held opposing batters to a .217 league batting average and .208 overall.
Tharp and Bos earned third-team selections as Tharp hit .338 in conference games. He led the Wildcats in batting average and had a .427 on-base percentage. He had 14 RBI and two home runs while scoring 12 runs in 23 starts (29 games).
Bos had the best year of his collegiate career, ending the regular season with the Big Ten's second-best ERA at 2.39. He had an overall ERA of 2.59, striking out 55 hitters in 76.1 innings. Bos' impressive .187 opposing batting average led the squad as did his ERA in both league and overall among starting pitchers.
