Marine Piriou Keeps Singles Title Hopes Alive

STANFORD, Calif. - Northwestern University women's tennis player Marine Piriou (30-15) kept her title hopes alive at the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Mississippi's Alesya Ignatieva Tuesday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif.

With the win, Piriou advances to the second round of the tournament and will meet the winner of the match between Anda Perianu (Oklahoma) and No. 1 Jessica Lehnhoff (Florida) later this evening. Piriou and Perianu did not meet this season. Lehnhoff defeated Piriou last week at the No. 1 singles position in the NCAA Team Championships Round of 16. The 'Cats fell to Florida, 4-1.
