No. 19 Women's Tennis Defeats Iowa, 6-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The No. 19 Wildcat women's tennis team returned to their home court and to conference play today, defeating Iowa 6-1 at the Combe Tennis Center. The 'Cats won five of the six singles matches to improve to 6-0 in the Big Ten and 14-5 overall. Iowa fell to 5-11 on the season and 2-4 in the conference.

Northwestern opened the match by sweeping doubles and retained the momentum, taking five of the six singles matches for the win. Senior Simona Petrutiu was the first player off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Denitza Alexandrova at No. 4. Iowa's only win came at No. 5 as Pascale Veraverbeke defeated freshman Andrea Yung, 6-3, 7-5.

Northwestern returns to the courts on Saturday, April 13 as they host the Wisconsin Badgers. Match time is set for 11 a.m at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
