COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mother Nature put Northwestern's (6-9, 0-0 Big Ten) opening conference baseball weekend at Ohio State University (12-4-1, 0-0) on hold Friday night as the skies opened up and rain postponed play.
The first of a four-game series between the Buckeyes and Wildcats was just one inning old when the rain began, stopping play. Ohio State starter E.J. Laratta (4-0, 1.36 ERA) had a 2-and-2 count on Wildcat sophomore David Gresky (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius) in the top of the second inning when third base umpire Tom Kovacic called the game.
The Wildcats started senior right-hander Gabe Ribas (2-1, 7.23 ERA) (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) who gave up two OSU singles in the first inning before a line-drive double play and a strikeout ended the inning.
The game is scheduled to resume Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm EST. The two teams will stick with the original schedule, as Saturday's original doubleheader will be played at 4:05 pm EST.
