EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's wrestling team continues open tournament action this weekend, travelling to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the 52nd annual University of Northern Iowa Open.

Freshman Matt Delguyd (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield) looks to continue his strong fall performance at the meet. Delguyd has placed in both of the events he has entered this season, finishing third at 197 pounds in the season-opening MSU Open. He followed that with a sixth-place finish at the Missouri Open on Nov. 24.

Senior Brendan Curran (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel) and freshman Joseph Gulotta (Meraux, La./Brother Martin) also wrestled well in Missouri. Curran placed sixth in the open competition at 184 pounds, while Gulotta won the freshman/sophomore division title at the same weight class.

The UNI Open will have a strong Big Ten flavor, as Illinois, Indiana and Iowa join NU in the field. The host Panthers, ranked No. 17 in the InterMat poll, dominated the 2001 Open, sending seven wrestlers to the finals. Five Panthers are ranked in the top 20 of their respective weight classes. More than 300 entrants are expected at this year's event, including wrestlers from Division II and III schools from around the region.

The Wildcats, who have only competed in open tournaments, begin their dual meet season next weekend as they host Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin-Parkside on Dec. 14.
