Northwestern Opens Dual Competition Against Eastern Illinois, Wisconsin-Parkside

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern begins its dual meet schedule this weekend against Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin-Parkside. The Wildcats will take on the Rangers at noon and the Panthers at 1 p.m. Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin-Parkside also will begin their dual at noon.
The Panthers and the Rangers both come into the dual with an 0-1 mark. Eastern Illinois dropped its first dual to Eastern Michigan, 19-16. Despite the loss, the Panthers managed to win half of the matches.
Wisconsin-Parkside is coming off a strong 2002 season in Division II. The Rangers return four All-Americans from a squad that went 12-1. Wisconsin-Parkside dropped their season-opener to state rival Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
Northwestern is looking to build on some solid performances in individual competition this fall. Senior John Giacche (Flemington, N.J./Blair Academy) led the ?Cats in their last outing at the Northern Iowa Open. Giacche went 5-1 en route to his second-place finish at 141 pounds. Brendan Curran (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel) placed third at 184 pounds and Josh Ballard (Carlsbad, N.M./Carlsbad) finished fifth at 149 pounds.
Freshman Matt Delguyd (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield) has had a strong start to his college career, placing twice this fall at 197 pounds.
