EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 11-17. The male recipient is Mike Oxman of the swimming and diving team, while the cross country team is the female recipient.
Freshman Mike Oxman (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) finished first on both diving boards in Northwestern's home dual meet with Wisconsin Friday night at the Norris Aquatics Center. Oxman posted career-best scores on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
He finished first on the 1-meter with a score of 337.88. Oxman followed the effort up with a total of 346.95 on the 3-meter board to defeat the nearest competitor by over 80 points.
It would be unfair to single out any of the seven women who ran at the Midwest Regional Saturday and earned the Wildcats' first NCAA berth since the program was restored as a varsity sport in 1998. Three of NU's runners earned All-District, and five ran personal bests for 6K.
The seven women who ran Saturday: seniors Laura Evans (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg), Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North), Nicole Kuznia (Olivia, Minn./BOLD) and Karen Rogers (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood); junior Emily Blakeslee (Rockford, Mich./Rockford); and sophomores Kyna Forkins (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Diana Hossfeld (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar).
