Wildcats Garner Sixth Place at Notre Dame Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Northwestern women's cross country team finished sixth out of 24 teams in the highly competitive Blue Race at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon.
Stanford, ranked second in the latest national poll, won the race easily with 21 points. The Cardinal captured the top three individual spots, led by sophomore Sara Bei, en route to the victory. Wisconsin was second with 67 points, while Notre Dame was third with 77 points. The Wildcats scored 188 points, finishing just behind fifth-place Indiana (149).
Among the teams Northwestern finished ahead of were BIg Ten foes Purdue (8th/296 points), Illinois (13th, 373) and Iowa (21st/526).
Senior Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North) was again NU's top finisher. She placed 16th overall with a time of 18:02 on the sloppy 5-kilometer course.
Sophomore Diana Hossfeld (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) was NU's next runner, clocking 18:18 for 28th overall, and she was followed closely by Nicole Kuznia (Olivia, Minn./BOLD) who was 31st overall in 18:22.
Seniors Laura Evans (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) and Karen Rogers (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) rounded out NU's scorers. Evans scored 41 points in 18:30, while Rogers scored 72 points in 18:52.
Other Northwestern runners on the day were Emily Blakeslee (90th/19:00), Kyna Forkins (121st/19:22) and Nora Colligan (134th/19:34).
