Women's Tennis Defeats DePaul in Season Opener, 6-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The No. 9 Wildcats opened the dual-match season with an easy 6-1 win over DePaul (2-2) Wednesday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center.
Northwestern got off to a quick start, sweeping doubles for the first point, then kept up the pace by winning five of the six singles matches to complete the match.
"We looked good today," said Head Coach Claire Pollard. "I had three new players in the lineup and they all did well--that is very encouraging."
Sophomore Ruth Barnes was the first Wildcat off the court with a 6-1, 6-1 win over DePaul's Megan Stewart at No. 6. Making her collegiate debut, freshman Andrea Yung started at No. 4, and defeated Karen Falduto for the 'Cats third point of the match. Senior Lia Jackson sealed the match, sweeping Kadi Hilpus at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0).
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday when they travel to William and Mary. Match time is set for 4 p.m. CDT.
