Evanston, Ill. - The Northwestern men's golf team will travel to Stillwater, Okla., May 17-19, to participate in the 2001 NCAA Central Region Championships. The championships will take place at Karsten Creek Golf Course, featuring 27 teams and five individuals. Northwestern, ranked No. 1 in District IV this week, received an automatic bid to the championships after winning its third straight Big Ten Championship last weekend in Urbana, Ill.
Last season, the Wildcats placed sixth at regionals with a three-round score of 854. Individually, Luke Donald shot three rounds under par to finish in a tie for third. This year, he will be gunning for an amazing fifth straight tournament victory. Chris Thayer is the only other current NU player to have competed at last year's championships.
