Michael Nall Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior Michael Nall (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week by the conference office Tuesday. He threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout at Penn State on Saturday, sparking the `Cats to a 4-0 win which propelled them to three straight victories over the Nittany Lions.
The righthander struck out six batters in seven innings to earn Northwestern's first Big Ten honor of the year. Nall, who has not allowed a walk in 14 innings, picked up his seventh win of the season and took over the team lead in strikeouts with 79. It was his fifth complete game of the year.
The weekend allowed NU to climb from seventh place to fifth in the Big Ten standings, as the Wildcats aim for their second straight berth in the Big Ten Baseball Tournament. NU is currently 23-28 (11-13 in conference play) and travels to Minneapolis to take on the Gophers in the season's final Big Ten weekend. The first game of the series is set for Friday at 6:35 pm at Siebert Field.
