EVANSTON, Ill. - The Center Court Board of Directors celebrated their 25th year of existence by holding their annual season-ending banquet Thursday night at the Omni Orrington Hotel in Evanston. Center Court is a booster group devoted to the women's athletic programs at Northwestern University.
Center Court also issued its annual awards last night.
Three women were honored as Center Court's Outstanding Senior Athletes -- Tashy Bohm (swimming), Shannon Duffy (tennis) and Brooke Siebel (softball).
Bohm graduates as a three-time Big Ten champion and two-time honorable mention All-American in the 200 backstroke. She holds the NU record in that event with a time of 1:57.34 set at 2001 NCAA Championships. She was also a member of NU's All-America 400 medley relay team in 2000 and honorable mention All-America 800 free relay team in 2001. Last summer, Bohm swam at 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
Duffy graduates with a 106-45 career record in singles after going 27-11 this year despite missing part of the spring with mononucleosis. She went 19-4 in dual matches and 9-1 in Big Ten play, and ended her career with a 36-3 mark in conference play. She earned All-Big Ten in 1999 and 2000. This past fall, Duffy won the Flight A singles title at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
Siebel was honored despite the fact that she did not play this year, a testament to the impact she had on the softball diamond in her first three years. The 1998 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and 2000 Big Ten Player of the Year, Siebel missed this year with an injury. In her three years of playing she was first team All-Big Ten each year and NFCA All-Mideast Region. She holds the career records at NU with a .348 batting average and 91 RBI.
Three other awards were handed out. The Jean Baddeley Spirit Award was given to Dana Leonard, a senior on the basketball team. The Center Court Scholar-Athlete was given to Laura Evans, a member of the cross country team. The Torch of Center Court Scholarship was given to Kathryn Breed from field hockey.
Eight women were given senior recognition: Jen Armson (volleyball), Brooke Bell (soccer), Carmen Burbach (volleyball), Colleen Cheng (tennis), Christie Hermes (golf), Krista Puttler (swimming), Carly Wells (fencing) and Jessica Yates (field hockey).
