STONE MOUNTAIN, GA. - Northwestern University women's tennis player Colleen Cheng kept her title hopes alive at the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kansas State's Alena Jeckminkova Tuesday afternoon at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Ga.

With the win, Cheng advances to the second round of the tournament and will meet USC's Jewel Peterson Wednesday morning. Peterson and Cheng are 1-1 against each other this season. Cheng was the winner in a match earlier this season, but Peterson came out on top last week as the two faced off at No. 1 in the NCAA Third Round matchup between the Trojans and the Wildcats (won by USC, 5-1).

Cheng moves to 31-13 on the season.
